Senior Financial Accountant
Silicon Quantum Computing (SQC) is at the forefront of global efforts to build the world’s first commercial-scale quantum computer, while delivering quantum-enhanced AI and simulation products to customers today.
Backed by over 25 years of technological excellence, SQC is a full-stack quantum computing company that leverages its proprietary manufacturing process to engineer atomic qubits in silicon with 0.13 nanometer precision. It is the most precise semiconductor manufacturing in the world, enabling systems with world-leading algorithmic fidelity, and a decisive advantage in the global quantum computing race.
Our products are commercially deployed and generating revenue. Watermelon, our quantum-enhanced AI system, is delivering superior results on real-world problems across energy, telecom and finance. Quantum Twins, our simulation platform, provides unparalleled ability to model quantum systems, accelerating molecule and materials discovery.
This is SQC: building the future of computing while delivering quantum impact today.
About the role
We are hiring a Financial Accountant into Finance, the team that keeps SQC's reporting, controls and compliance in step with a fast-scaling, multi-region deep-tech business. You will own the month-end close and the monthly management accounts, and be central to the accuracy, timeliness and integrity of everything SQC reports.
The reporting environment is genuinely complex. You will close across multiple regions, including intercompany, reconcile between AASB and US GAAP, and apply policy positions on R&D expenditure, grant income, leases, share-based payments and foreign currency. Alongside the close, you will oversee payroll and its compliance, support the R&D Tax Incentive claim, and help strengthen SQC's control environment as we implement NetSuite and SOX-aligned processes.
Based at our Sydney facility, you will join a small, high-calibre finance team and work across FP&A, budget holders, external auditors and technical teams. This is a role for a qualified accountant who is technically strong, hands-on and comfortable with detail, and who wants real influence over how the function matures.
Role responsibilities
- Own the monthly close to a defined timetable, including journals, accruals, fixed assets, intercompany and balance sheet reconciliations
- Prepare monthly management accounts across regions, and contribute to half-yearly and annual financial statements under AASB and US GAAP, including dual-reporting reconciliations
- Apply and document accounting policy positions on R&D expenditure, grant income, leases, share-based payments and foreign currency, escalating complex matters where needed
- Maintain accurate cost classification and supporting schedules for the R&D Tax Incentive claim
- Oversee payroll processing and reconciliation, including superannuation, payroll tax, PAYG withholding and STP reporting
- Prepare BAS/GST, FBT and other statutory lodgements, and support the Tax function with data and schedules
- Coordinate with external auditors, preparing working papers and supporting interim and year-end audits
- Design, operate and evidence internal controls and process documentation to support SOX readiness
- Contribute to the NetSuite implementation, including month-end workflows and reporting
- Partner with FP&A and budget holders on actuals and results
Your experience
Essential
- Qualified Chartered Accountant (CA ANZ) or CPA Australia member in good standing
- 4 to 5 years' experience in financial accounting, built largely in a chartered firm, and ready for your first move into industry
- Strong working knowledge of AASB and the Corporations Act
- Demonstrated delivery of month-end close, statutory reporting and audit support with minimal supervision
- Working knowledge of Australian payroll, superannuation, payroll tax and GST compliance
- Proficiency in Excel and a modern ERP
- A relevant tertiary qualification in accounting, commerce or finance
- Excellent attention to detail and clear communication, with the confidence to engage senior management and technical teams
- Comfortable owning detailed work and improving processes as you go
Nice to have
- Exposure to US GAAP or other multi-framework reporting
- NetSuite experience
- SOX or similar internal control experience
- Experience in a technology, R&D or scaling environment

Our Chair, Simon Segars, former CEO of Arm, is a leader in the semiconductor industry and was instrumental in developing the processors that powered the mobile computing revolution.
As a full-stack company with in-house QPU manufacturing, SQC can design, produce and test new quantum chips in under a week, enabling rapid iteration and a decisive advantage in the race to build the world’s first commercial-scale quantum computer.
